Aspect Ratio Calculator
Calculate aspect ratios and dimensions for your images and videos. Find the aspect ratio of a size, or find a new size based on a ratio.
The Aspect Ratio Calculator is a versatile tool for anyone working with visual media, including web developers, graphic designers, and videographers. It helps you maintain correct proportions when resizing images or video frames. Whether you need to find the simplified ratio of an existing asset (like 16:9 for a 1920x1080 video) or calculate a new dimension based on a specific ratio, this tool provides instant and accurate results. All calculations are performed securely in your browser.
To Find an Aspect Ratio:
- In the 'Find Aspect Ratio' card, enter the original width and height of your image or video.
- The simplified ratio (e.g., 4:3, 16:9) will be calculated and displayed automatically.
To Find New Dimensions:
- In the 'Find Dimensions' card, enter the ratio you want to use (e.g., 16 for width and 9 for height).
- Enter either the new width OR the new height you want.
- The other dimension will be calculated automatically to maintain the correct proportions.
Aspect ratio describes the proportional relationship between the width and height of an image or screen. It's written as two numbers separated by a colon, such as 16:9. For every 16 units of width, there are 9 units of height. Maintaining the correct aspect ratio is crucial when resizing media to prevent it from looking stretched or squashed.
16:9
Widescreen standard for HDTVs, computer monitors, and most online video platforms like YouTube and Vimeo.
4:3
The standard for older CRT television screens and computer monitors. Still sometimes used for specific artistic choices or retro-style content.
1:1
A square aspect ratio, popularized by Instagram and often used for profile pictures and social media posts.
3:2
The standard for 35mm film photography and many DSLR cameras.
